Nutrition Program

The Alberta Government has given funding to school districts to support programs that provide healthy food choices to students. The purpose of the School Nutrition Program is to provide students in participating schools with access to nutritious food from each of the four food groups each day during the school year, at no additional cost to students or their families. The program is predicated on providing a choice to students from the various food groups each day (fruits and vegetables, whole grains and protein (meat, plant, dairy)).

Penhold Elementary was one of the first schools in Chinook's Edge to benefit from this funding.  Some of our schools are partnered with The Mustard Seed and others are provided with School Nutrition funding to augment their program.  Our School Councils and local partners are also integral to providing food in our schools.
